Dr Ron Watermeyer (DEng, CEng, PrEng, PrCM, PrCPM, Hon.FSAICE, FIStructE, FICE, FSAAE)

Dr Watermeyer graduated with a civil engineering in 1978. He functioned as a site engineer on a mega project and as a structural engineer in a specialist design office for the first decade of his career. He worked as a consulting engineer for the next two decades. Over the last decade, he has worked with public sector clients in the delivery of infrastructure projects.

He was a member of the South Africa government’s Procurement Reform Task Team (1995–1997) and project-led the development of the CIDB Standard for Uniformity in Construction Procurement (2002-2004), the ISO 10845 family of standards (2005–2011) and the National Treasury Standard for Infrastructure Procurement and Delivery Management (2015). He piloted the implementation in South Africa of target contracts and framework agreements for infrastructure projects within the public and was intimately involved in the procurement and delivery management arrangements for the first phase of the Sol Plaatje University and the University of Mpumalanga.

He was awarded a Doctor of Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand in 2009 and the 2010 Institution of Civil Engineers’ International Medal for his contributions over time to the delivery of infrastructure. He is currently a director of Infrastructure Options Pty (Ltd), a visiting adjunct professor at the School of Construction Economics and Management, University of the Witwatersrand, and the Chair of the ISO Subcommittee for Construction Procurement. He has published more than 80 papers and articles on various aspects on the procurement and delivery of infrastructure.
