Dr Ana Casanueva
Director: Technology Transfer Office; University of the Western Cape
Ana Casanueva is the Director of the Technology Transfer Office at the University of the Western Cape where she is responsible for the management and commercialisation of the university’s intellectual property.
Ana received her PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Cape Town in 2005 and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice with specialisation in Business Administration from the same institution. She held a postdoctoral fellowship and was a research manager in the Institute for Microbial Biotechnology and Metagenomics at the University of the Western Cape, working on a number of projects with industry partners and public sector. She then worked as an Innovation and Technology Transfer Professional at the University of the Western Cape for 7 years before working in a Technology Start-up part-time, while also consulting in Technology Innovation.
Prior to joining the University of the Western Cape as Director of the Technology Transfer Office, Ana was Project Manager for Technology at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC).
